Sustainability

Adventure Today, Wilderness Tomorrow

The wilderness that tests our gear, inspires our direction and fuels our adventures is not just somewhere we visit- it is something worth protecting.

Every sunrise from a quiet campsite, every trail through native bushland and every weekend spent away from the noise reminds us why these places matter.

We believe an outdoor brand should contribute to protecting the places its customers love to explore.

Our Forest Promise: One Order, One Tree

For every completed order placed with NorthPeak Gear, we fund the planting of one tree through reforestation projects around the world.

Our goal is to help plant 100,000 trees by the end of 2027.

This commitment is one practical way we can connect the growth of NorthPeak Gear with positive environmental work.

We maintain records of the orders and tree-planting contributions behind this initiative so that the promise remains measurable and accountable.

Built to Last, Not Quickly Replace

Durability Matters

Outdoor equipment that remains useful for longer generally needs to be replaced less often.

That is why durability, repairability and responsible product care matter to us.

We focus on gear designed for repeated real-world use, supported by practical care guidance, repair options where appropriate and warranty assistance when genuine manufacturing issues arise.

No outdoor product lasts forever, and inflatable equipment must still be protected from sharp objects, excessive heat and improper storage. Our aim is simply to offer products that balance comfort, portability, durability and value - and to help customers get the longest practical life from them.

Use It Well. Maintain It Properly.

Customers can help extend the useful life of their gear by:

  • Clearing sharp objects before setup.
  • Keeping equipment away from flames and excessive heat.
  • Cleaning and drying products before long-term storage.
  • Repairing small punctures rather than immediately replacing the product.
  • Following the product’s care and storage instructions.

Extending product life is one of the most practical ways to reduce unnecessary waste.

Responsible Manufacturing

We work with external manufacturing and fulfilment partners and are continuing to improve the information we collect about our supply chain.

At present, we do not make claims that our products are manufactured using renewable energy, recycled materials or certified environmental manufacturing systems.

Our current focus is on practical product quality, durability, responsible care and reducing avoidable waste where we have the ability to influence it.

We are continuing discussions with our suppliers regarding:

  • Manufacturing waste handling.
  • Opportunities to reduce avoidable production waste.
  • Packaging reduction.
  • Potential future use of more readily recyclable packaging.
  • Product durability and quality-control improvements.
  • More detailed documentation of supplier practices.

We will only publish specific environmental or ethical manufacturing claims when they can be properly supported by reliable evidence.

Supporting Wild Places

NorthPeak Gear supports selected Australian organisations working to protect natural places, wildlife and habitat.

Our support includes direct donations to reputable conservation organisations including Australian Wildlife Conservancy, the Environmental Defenders Office of Australia and the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Trust, alongside our one-order-one-tree commitment.

Smarter Packaging

Our packaging approach is straightforward: use what is necessary to protect the product while avoiding unnecessary presentation materials wherever practical.

Current priorities include:

  • Compact packaging suited to the product.
  • Reusable storage bags that remain part of the customer’s gear.
  • Avoiding oversized branded presentation boxes.
  • Reducing unnecessary inserts and components.
  • Reviewing opportunities to reduce packaging weight and plastic use.
  • Exploring packaging alternatives that may be easier to reuse or recycle in the future.

Some of our current packaging materials are not readily recyclable, and improving this is an area we intend to investigate with our suppliers.

Packaging must still protect products properly during international transport, so any changes must be practical and must not increase product damage or waste.

Transparency in Action

Sustainability is ongoing work, not a finished badge.

We are still improving our understanding of the environmental impact of our products, packaging and supply chain, including areas where our current materials and processes can be improved.

Our Goals for 2027

By the end of 2027, we aim to:

  • Fund the planting of 100,000 trees.
  • Improve the environmental information collected from our principal manufacturing partners.
  • Measure the main packaging materials used across our core products.
  • Identify practical opportunities to reduce unnecessary plastic and packaging weight.
  • Explore packaging options that are more readily reusable or recyclable.
  • Introduce clearer repair and product-care resources for customers.
  • Maintain records of our direct conservation donations.
  • Assess options for measuring key freight and supply-chain emissions before making any carbon-reduction or carbon-neutrality claims.
  • Publish a straightforward annual sustainability update outlining progress, setbacks and next steps.

These are goals rather than completed achievements, and we will update them as our information and capabilities improve.

Your Role in the Mission

Every customer can help reduce their outdoor impact by:

  • Maintaining and repairing gear where practical.
  • Disposing of damaged equipment responsibly.
  • Following Leave No Trace principles.
  • Respecting wildlife and local restrictions.
  • Staying on established tracks where required.
  • Supporting local restoration and conservation initiatives.
  • Leaving campsites cleaner than they were found.

The Bottom Line

We’re Not Perfect, but We’re Taking Practical Steps

Sustainability is not about pretending a global product business has no environmental impact.

It is about measuring what we can, improving what we reasonably can, supporting credible environmental work and being honest about what is still unresolved.

Every tree funded, every unnecessary packaging component removed, every product repaired rather than discarded and every contribution to habitat and wilderness protection represents progress.

Because the best adventures happen in places worth preserving.

Adventure today. Wilderness tomorrow.
